By Muskan Singh: A kissing scene from the web series – A Suitable Boy steaming on Netflix has come under the scanner. Madhya Pradesh police has registered an FIR against two executives of Netflix for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through its web series.

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national secretary Gaurav Tiwari on Monday registered an FIR against two officials of OTT ( Over the top) platform Netflix. The web series based on a bestseller which is now under scanner shows few kissing scenes in the campus of a temple, an official said.

“On the basis of a complaint filed by Gaurav Tiwari, an FIR is being registered under section 295 (A) (malicious acts to outrage and insulting the religious feelings and beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in Rewa against Monika Shergill, Vice President and content of Netflix and Ambika Khurana, the Director of Public Policies (Netflix)” Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said.

The officials are charged by Rewa police on a complaint filed by Gaurav Tiwari  who demanded the removal of “objectionable scenes” which he stated were also “encouraging love jihad” and also ordered an apology from Netflix and creators of the series.

“Kissing scenes (filmed) inside a temple of Lord Maheshwar ( located on the banks of Narmada in Madhya Pradesh) have hurt the sentiments of Hindus. This is also encouraging ‘love jihad’,” Tiwari had stated.

He had named Monika Shergill and Ambika Khurana in his complaint application.

However, collector of Khargone district Anugraha P has claimed that the kissing scenes were not filmed inside a temple.

The six-part Netflix series has been directed by well-known filmmaker Mira Nair, who is known for her critically-acclaimed films like, “Monsoon Wedding”, “Salaam Bombay” and “The Namesake”.

Rewa superintendent of police Rakesh Kumar Singh told reporters that the FIR has been registered and further investigation is being carried out.
