Action Against Anti-India Propaganda: India Blocks 20 Fake News YouTube Channels, 2 Websites Running From Pakistan

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has shut 20 YouTube Channels and two websites for propagating anti-India propaganda in a huge drive against Pakistani disinformation.

Separate instructions from the Ministry of I&B asked Youtube to take action against 20 Channels on its website, and the Department of Telecom directed internet service providers to block the two websites for disseminating anti-India propaganda.

The operation, according to reports, was the result of a tightly coordinated effort between intelligence services and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

“The channels and websites are part of a coordinated disinformation network based in Pakistan that spreads false information regarding numerous sensitive Indian subjects. The channels were used to distribute contentious content on issues such as Kashmir, the Indian Army, minority populations in India, Ram Mandir, General Bipin Rawat, and others in an organised fashion “according to a source

According to Ministry authorities, the mode of operation of the anti-India disinformation campaign featured The Naya Pakistan Group (NPG), which operates from Pakistan and has a network of YouTube channels, as well as some other standalone YouTube channels unrelated to NPG. The channels had over 35 lakh subscribers altogether, and their videos had over 55 crore views. Some of the Naya Pakistan Group’s (NPG) YouTube channels were run by anchors from Pakistani news channels.

These YouTube channels also posted content on themes such as the farmers’ protest, protests connected to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, and attempted to instigate minorities against the Indian government. It was also believed that these YouTube channels would be utilised to discredit the democratic process of the approaching elections in five states.
