Bengaluru: 31 'Specially Trained' Female Officers Will Now Monitor Crime Against Women, Children

Bengaluru Police will now have a squad of 31 specifically trained female officers, marking a significant step toward making the city a safer place for women. These officers would be in charge of keeping track of crime against women as well as providing counselling.

Kamal Pant, Bengaluru’s Commissioner of Police, announced the news last week through his Twitter account. He said the team’s name will be ‘Rani Chennamma Pade,’ which means ‘By Women, For Women, Of Women.’

The team’s duty, according to the officer, will involve teaching and training women in basic self-defence skills. The officers would also work on creating mass awareness about women and child-related laws and legal procedures.

To instil a proactive mindset, the team would also raise awareness about proper social media usage and warn people about cybercrime and how to avoid it.

He went on to say that counselling sessions and sensitising the public, particularly autorickshaws, cab, and bus drivers, on how to handle situations involving women and children properly will also be part of their goals.
