CBI Registers FIR Against 8 ITBP Police Officers and 4 Contractors in Multi-Crore Procurement & Logistics Fraud

Customs Officer & Operator Held By CBI For Demanding Bribe To Release Seized Goods

Dehradun: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered two separate cases against eight officers and four contractors of the 7th Battalion Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Mirthi, Pithoragarh district. The investigation pertains to alleged financial irregularities amounting to Rs 1.76 crore between 2017 and 2019 in logistics, kerosene, and freight charges.

CBI Probe into Freight Manipulation

The cases were registered following a complaint from Mirthi Battalion Commandant Paramendra Singh, who reported discrepancies in logistical expenses. The CBI’s preliminary findings indicate fraudulent practices in the transportation of supplies to border posts.

First Case: Rs 22.07 Lakh Kerosene Supply Scam

The first case involves Commandant Mahendra Pratap, Deputy Commandant Deepak Gogoi, Deputy Commandant Mukesh Chand Meena, and three contractors—Madan Singh Rana, Puran Singh, and Kundan Singh Bhandari.

It is alleged that these officers, in collusion with the contractors, manipulated records and embezzled approximately Rs 22.07 lakh while supplying kerosene to remote border posts.

  • Mahendra Pratap is currently posted with ITBP Madhya Pradesh.
  • Deepak Gogoi is now stationed in Haryana.
  • Mukesh Chandra Meena has been transferred to ITBP Guwahati.
  • The accused contractors—Madan Singh Rana, Puran Singh, and Kundan Singh Bhandari—are residents of Pithoragarh.

Second Case: Rs 1.54 Crore Logistics Scam

The second case involves former Mirthi Battalion Commandant Anupreet Borkar, Deputy Commandants Deepak Gogoi, Puran Ram, Mukesh Chand Meena, and Inspector Anil Kumar, along with contractor Madan Singh Rana.

They are accused of misappropriating Rs 1.54 crore by manipulating transportation and logistics expenses for various materials.

Ongoing Investigation

The CBI is currently probing the financial irregularities and the alleged role of officers and contractors in the scam. Further developments are expected as the investigation progresses.
