LUCKNOW: In a breakthrough, Lucknow Cyber Cell has arrested the country’s most wanted cybercriminal Pramod Mandal from Delhi on Monday. Mandal is wanted in more than 29 cases by 10 state police.
Mandal is said to be the man behind training young cyber criminals involved in cyber crime activities and phishing calls originating from Jharkhand’s infamous Jamtara and Dumka area.
Mandal’s name cropped up in almost all the investigations of phishing call fraud made across India. He has made a huge wealth from cyber fraud and invested a large sum of Rs 10 crore in lands and properties.
Pramod Mandal had hired an accountant in Delhi for investing his money and transacting it safely so that police and taxmen could not track it. His account was also arrested in the raid.
Police said Mandal, a resident of Dumka in Jharkhand, had earlier come to see his father and uncle in Lucknow jail. Police were keeping an eye on him and tracking his movement. Cops also got hold of his mobile numbers which were used recently in booking air tickets. Following his digital footprints police reached Delhi where he was hiding with his accomplice.
Lucknow Cyber Cell has arrested other five cyber criminals along with Mandal. Last year, Mandal’s gang duped a retired clerk from UP secretariat of Rs 53 lakh.
