Customs Officer & Operator Held By CBI For Demanding Bribe To Release Seized Goods

NEW DELHI: After receiving a complaint, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Superintendent of Customs in Motihari, Bihar, and a Computer Operator for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

According to the officials, a complaint was received alleging a bribe demand of Rs. 90,000 by the duo, which was 30% of the seizure value of goods seized on December 31, 2021 by Motihari Customs Office. The officials said that they would dispose of the complainant’s case and release his seized vehicle.

The CBI set a trap against the accused and apprehended him while taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant. Searches were undertaken at the accused’s residence, which resulted in the seizure of certain incriminating documents.

The arrested accused were produced before the Competent Court at Patna on Wednesday and were remanded to Judicial Custody.
