In a written reply to a question, Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said that according to information submitted to and monitored by the CERT-In, 3,94,499 and 11,58,208 cyber security incidents were observed in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

All law enforcement agencies and cyber experts said that India saw a spike in cyber crime and attack cases in 2020. These attacks multiplied many folds while most of the professionals and business started working from home during the lockdown.

Reddy explained that the CERT-In receives information about malware infections in networks of organisations from its situational awareness systems and threat intelligence sources.

CERT-In issues alerts and advisories to the organisations involved and sectoral Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) for remedial measures if an incident is brought to their attention, he said.
