Cyber Workshop: 450 UP Cops Undergo Training To Meet Digital Challenges

SITAPUR: The second day of the cyber workshop for newly promoted police inspectors in the Police Training Centre, Sitapur witnessed power-packed sessions by top cyber experts.

Close to 450 policemen are undergoing online training and technical investigation which is being conducted by Root64 Infosec Foundation. The cyber training workshop was conceptualised by Raja Srivastava, Additional Director General (ADG), Police Training Centre, Sitapur to prepare the force to meet digital challenges.

The second day started with a session by Shamsher Bahadur, Cyber Practice Head, Armantec System Pvt Ltd who talked about types of Cyber Attacks, Psychology of Security, Futuristic imminent attacks, which Police Officers have to investigate in the coming days. 

Bahadur explained the ways of armouring the officers with cyber gears, something similar to physical protection gears which they are used to while executing any operations.

Further, he demonstrated how Cyber Criminals try to conceal/erase their digital footprint, before and after the crime, which makes tough to investigate & police department must keep themselves updated about latest cybercrime methodologies adopted by cybercriminals/fraudsters.

Bahadur suggested it’s time to get over with the traditional approach of investigations like trying to catch Cyber Criminals with IP Addresses and CDRs etc. He stressed mandatory digital detoxification to retain the alertness of police officers.

Next speaker Abhirup Guha, Darkweb Specialist talked Deep web, Darkweb & explained the methodologies adopted by Cyber Criminals for committing Cyber Frauds/Crimes.

He demonstrated, how easy it is for criminals to get each and every resource to execute the crime professionally for example availability of ATM Virus Cards, ATM Activator cards, Digital Currency mules, Guha stressed, to catch hold of Cyber Criminals, one need to think from Hacker’s minds & LEAs must go for skill augmentation in this filed for efficient & timely investigation of the ever-changing Cybercrimes. As a use case, Guha demonstrated, how Indore Police’s website got defaced by Cyber Criminals based out of Pakistan a day before yesterday

Pawan Kushwaha, CEO, Karatikal Tech Pvt Ltd explained about Phishing, SMSing, Mail Spoofing & how corporate organization faces the risk of Cyber Attacks due to these problems.

Kushwaha demonstrated, how easy is to Spoof someone’s email, meaning cyber fraudsters send the email impersonating someone else identity, how phishing websites can be created in a couple of minutes & common person fall prey to this bait.

He also cautioned the police officers, what all needs to be checked in email, which shall assist them in investigating the case.
