CYBEY SECURITY – HANDS ON FOR THE AMATEUR

Cyber Security workshops, training and seminars have been happening for quite sometime now. The stance of the users and if we delve deep into the habits of the resources who have been providing this guidance, doesn’t seem to have changed. It’s homilies all around; for the participants and the mentors, the teachers and the students but the scenario remains where is stands. Everybody remains where it all started, no sure how many use two factor authentication or encryption or ProtonMail or Telegram or TOR. For the breed for which everything is a pain not realising the fact that we have become a pain to the world, giving immense opportunities for crime & criminality, hacks, breaches, money laundering, bullying and also social instability in the days to come.

But we want everybody to believe that everything is running fine and that we are gradually improving, when that is not the case. The only way left out is the manner the flight announcement are made to use your seat belts etc., teaching every step and every time you hop on to an aircraft and then you are checked again, every single time, for take off or for landing and any bad weather in between. This is the treatment we require. Teaching and training by force, the way parade and drills are taught in police training schools. This should become the curriculum in our schools. This is the only way cyber security can be taught and made as a habit, one we can’t dispense with even if we want.

Cyber Security should become a part of our curriculum because there is no other way we as a functional society can survive. What has our level of hygiene and overcrowding done to us, we are realising when hit by COVID-19, it would not be long before we face a similar situation in the cyber world. Unfortunately, this would not be just the cyber world as we understand today, it would be the cyber physical world, everything enmeshed into each other, in a seamless manner, either we survive or we die. It would be the same chosen fate that COVID-19 has given to us.

Firesale is what all of us know, when all critical infrastructure is brought down simultaneously. Elections and referendums have been hacked, a central bank has faced their wrath and endless cyber crimes are happening everyday. We have no way to check and control bois locker room type scenarios. What are we waiting for? A COVID-19 type Cyber Security onslaught. Is that the only we learn? Quite a tough choice indeed.

WITH DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION ENGULFING US, THIS IS LAST CHANCE TO BE CYBER SECURE.
