Delhi Riots: Top Officials Of Facebook To Appear Before Delhi Assembly's Peace & Harmony Panel On Nov 18

NEW DELHI: Facebook India’s public policy director Shivnath Thukral and legal director G V Anand Bhushan will testify before the Delhi Assembly’s Peace and Harmony Committee on November 18, 2021, on the 2020 northeast Delhi riots.

According to the committee, the summons was given to Facebook India to voice its views on the critical role of social media in preventing the propagation of misleading, provocative, and harmful messages that may incite violence and discord.

The committee, led by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Raghav Chadha, will meet in Delhi Vidhan Sabha on November 18 at 12.30 p.m.

According to the officials, to maintain the utmost transparency in the functioning of the committee, the proceedings shall be live-streamed for more public outreach.

So far, the committee through its Chairman Raghav Chadha has among others hitherto examined seven extremely crucial witnesses namely Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, eminent journalist and author, Nikhil Pahwa, digital rights activist, Awesh Tiwari, senior journalist, Kunal Purohit, eminent independent and investigative journalist, Prabir Purkaystha, editor, NewsClick, Pratik Sinha co-founder Alt News, and Mark S. Luckie- Facebook Inc’s former employee.
