The Future Crime Research Foundation (FCRF) recently organized an impactful online workshop titled “Significance of Digital Forensics in the New Criminal Laws for UP Cyber Police.” The event, held under the guidance of Shri Binod K. Singh, Additional Director General (ADG) of Cyber Crime for Uttar Pradesh, brought together cyber police personnel from all 75 districts of the state. The workshop was a crucial step in aligning the state’s cyber enforcement capabilities with the evolving digital landscape shaped by India’s new criminal laws.

Key Highlights of the Workshop:

1. Expert Speakers: The workshop featured a distinguished panel of speakers including Prof. Triveni Singh, a former IPS officer and an authority in cybercrime; Dija S., a Scientist F from CDAC; Abhinav Saurabh, a renowned cyber forensic expert; Ajay Sariyal from MSAB, a global leader in mobile forensic technology; and Subroto, an expert in digital investigations. These experts shared their insights on the critical role of digital forensics in modern law enforcement, particularly under the new legislative framework.

2. Practical Demonstrations: One of the workshop’s key features was the live demonstration of cutting-edge cyber forensic tools. These demonstrations provided the attending officers with hands-on experience in the application of forensic techniques to extract, analyze, and preserve digital evidence, which is increasingly vital in prosecuting cybercrimes.

These laws have modernized the legal framework, making digital evidence central to criminal investigations and court proceedings. The speakers discussed how these laws enhance the capability of law enforcement agencies to handle the complexities of cybercrimes, which are often transnational and involve sophisticated technology.

4. Engagement with UP Cyber Police: The workshop was well-received by the cyber police personnel, who engaged actively with the experts. The event underscored the necessity for continuous training and upskilling in digital forensics to keep pace with the rapidly evolving cyber threats.

This workshop is a significant step towards strengthening the digital forensic capabilities of Uttar Pradesh’s cyber police, ensuring that they are well-equipped to enforce the new criminal laws and safeguard the state’s digital environment.
