Hoax Message On WhatsApp Creates Stir; Won’t Lead To Hacking, Delhi Police Clarifies
New Delhi: Clearing the air over a forwarded message on WhatsApp circulating in the national capital that has created panic, Delhi Police clarified that answering call from -912250041117 will not lead to mobile hacking. The forwarded message on the chatting platform is a hoax.
The public should not panic if they receive a WhatsApp message about a call from ‘912250041117,’ which warns that answering calls from that number may result in the phone being hacked. This claim is a hoax as this number does not exist.
Calling it fake information, the cybercrime unit of Delhi Police said the following message was making the rounds on WhatsApp: “Just now one of our friends received a call from 912250041117 asking him to press 1 if I had been vaccinated. He pressed 1 and immediately the number turned red and his phone had been hacked. So be careful when you get similar calls.”
Tweets Spreading Rumours:
“We checked the number and found that it did not exist. So there is no need to panic on getting the message. So far no person has received any call from the number,” said a senior Delhi police official.
Meanwhile, other state police have also issued a clarification over the issue.
