Inter-State Gang Cloning Bank Cards Of Customers At ATM Busted

Siliguri: ATM card cloners are now targeting people living in far flung area of north-east. STF of Siliguri police have arrested two conmen for siphoning off money from thousands of innocent victims on the pretext of helping them use their card on ATM machines.

The gang used to start their road trip from Delhi and cloned thousands of bank cards of senior citizens and labourers on the way. This was done on the pretext of helping them in using the ATM machine. The gang was arrested on January 22 by STF which was quite active in the area. Cops have recovered several ATM cards and cloning device from their possession.

According to the STF officer, there have been many victims of card fraud in recent past. Most of the victims were senior citizens and daily wagers. Gang members had a card cloning device which they have bought online. The gang cloned card from one district and then used in neighbouring district.

Posing as customers they used to stand in a queue or near the ATM machine as soon any senior citizen or a worker used to come to withdraw money they used to offer help. On the pretext of helping them, they used to swipe their card on their cloning device and copy the data of their debit card stored in its magnetic strip.

Those arrested has been identified as Sonu Kumar and Sanjoy.
