Indian Government Aims To Develop AI Ecosystem For The Country's Digital Economy: Rajeev Chandrasekhar

BENGALURU: Indian government is committed to developing artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-powered solutions that will benefit India and transform the lives of its people, said Union Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

AI as a Kinetic Enabler of India’s Digital Economy

Speaking at the Technology Round Table event in Bengaluru, organised by Business Standard, the Minister highlighted that AI will be a kinetic enabler of India’s digital economy and make governance smarter and more data-led.

Partnerships with Academia, Startups, and Industry Players

Chandrasekhar further emphasised that the broad vision of the country’s AI programme is to secure India’s position as one of the leading nations in the AI space. The government is working in partnership with academia, startups, and industry players to develop cutting-edge applications and scalable problem solutions in various fields, such as agriculture, health, and sustainable cities, thereby catalysing an effective AI ecosystem.

Expansion of AI Compute and GPU Infrastructure

The Indian government aims to significantly expand the AI Compute, GPU infrastructure in partnership with technology companies to catalyse growth and innovation of emerging technologies while laying guardrails for ethical and safe use. Chandrasekhar added that one of the objectives of IndiaAI programme is to create a model of responsible and ethical AI, both for India and the world.

India as a Global Talent Hub for AI

Apart from developing technology, the Prime Minister has also emphasised making India a Global Talent Hub for AI under the IndiaAI. Skilling efforts to re-skill and up-skill professionals to be adept with emerging technologies are being implemented, and young Indians are being equipped with industry-ready and future-ready skills.

The Indian government’s focus on developing an AI ecosystem and promoting its adoption in various fields is expected to provide a significant boost to the country’s digital economy.
