Iran-linked Black Shadow Hackers Leak Medical Data Of 2.9 Lakh Israeli Patients On Telegram

Iran-linked – Black Shadow hacker gang uploaded a directory including personal information, appointments, and test results for nearly 290,000 patients from Israel’s Machon Mor medical centre on Tuesday night. The move came after the database of an LGBTQ dating website was leaked earlier in the day.

Earlier on Tuesday, Black Shadow uploaded to a Telegram channel a database of user information from the Atraf LGBTQ dating website, including the users’ names, locations, and even HIV status, after the service refused to pay a $1 million digital currency ransom to prevent the information from being leaked.

According to the Times of Israel, the database from Machon Mor medical institution, which was leaked later on Tuesday, includes information on medical treatments, appointments, test results, and vaccines of around 290,000 patients of the medical centre.

Yoram Hacohen, the head of the Israel Internet Association, described the recent attacks to the newspaper as “one of the most significant attacks on privacy that Israel has ever experienced,” adding that “Israeli individuals are being subjected to cyber terrorism… This is terrorism in every sense, and the focus must now be on reducing the damage and controlling the spread of knowledge to the greatest extent feasible.”

Hacohen told the Times of Israel that Telegram was partially at blame for the data breach since it did not prevent the flow of private information, emphasising the significance of Israel taking legal and technological measures to remove destructive content online.

The Black Shadow organisation hacked the Israeli internet hosting business CyberServe on Friday, shutting down its servers as well as a number of sites, including the Atraf LGBTQ dating service, as well as the websites of tourism company Pegasus, public transportation company Dan, and children’s museum Kavim.

These intrusions by Iran-linked hackers come just a week after an unidentified cyberattack disrupted Iran’s gas distribution system on October 26, which Iran blamed on Israel and the US.
