IT Engineer Falls Victim to Rs 1.39 Crore Cyber Fraud; Scam Initiated through WhatsApp Call

Greater Noida: A shocking case of cyber fraud amounting to Rs 1.39 crore has surfaced in Greater Noida West, involving an IT engineer named Vishwadeep Sarkar. The scam began when Vishwadeep received a call on WhatsApp. The caller introduced himself as an official from a reputed share trading company and lured Vishwadeep with promises of high profits.

Shortly after the call, Vishwadeep was added to a WhatsApp group, where consistent claims of lucrative returns were made. The group included several other individuals, all seemingly discussing impressive gains from investments.

Investing Rs 1.39 Crore in Hopes of Profit

Convinced by the promises made in the group, Vishwadeep repeatedly transferred a total of ₹1.39 crore to various accounts, believing he was securing high returns. Each time, the scammers provided different reasons for additional payments and reassured him of the massive profits to come. However, when Vishwadeep attempted to withdraw his investment, the scammers demanded even more money. This suspicious behavior made him realize that he had been defrauded.

Police Investigation Underway

Upon recognizing the scam, Vishwadeep immediately lodged a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Bisrakh. The police have registered the case and are currently investigating the accounts to which the defrauded funds were transferred.
