JCCT1 Constituted To Check Cyber Crime From Mewat Region, Police From Delhi, UP, Rajasthan & Haryana To Work Together

NEW DELHI: Joint cybercrime coordination team with Delhi police as the nodal agency has been formed to investigate cybercrimes originating from the Mewat region in North India, according to a statement released by the Delhi police on Thursday.

The team, known as JCCT1, comprises officers from different states including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat, and Delhi. The team was constituted based on the analysis of complaints received at the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP).

The focus of JCCT1 is to identify the modules operating in the Mewat region of Haryana-Rajasthan and Bharatpur in Rajasthan, where police have encountered cases of cyber fraud over the past four years. The gangs previously operated from Jamtara in Jharkhand but have shifted their operations to the new regions.

To combat this trend, Delhi police conducted a one-day conference of JCCTs on Wednesday at the special cell office in Dwarka. The conference was attended by 51 senior police officers from different states and the CEO of Indian Crime Cyber Coordination Centre (I4C).

“In the meeting, we discussed how the states must work together like we did when busting the networks of Jamtara. Inputs will be shared among all forces to work together. Interstate coordination is necessary because cybercriminals sit in one state and con a person from another state. The bank accounts where the duped money is deposited could be in another state. To nip the bud, a coordinated effort is necessary by police teams of all forces,” said a Delhi police special cell officer, who asked not to be named.

Last month, Delhi police arrested five persons who were operating from Mewat, Haryana, and Bharatpur in Rajasthan. They had duped people in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, by using their cell phones from their village in Bharatpur.

The new joint cybercrime coordination team aims to crack down on cybercriminals operating in the Mewat region and bring them to justice.
