BHOPAL: A 26-year-old woman from Bhopal was cheated by a conman who posed as a professional on a matrimonial website and sent an alliance request. He enticed her into his friendship trap and duped her of Rs 20,000, claiming that he was posted out of the country and his mother was ill.
When he demanded more money, the girl became suspicious and reported the incident to the cybercrime division. The accused had created multiple profiles on the matrimonial website, posing as IAS, IPS, software engineer, etc.
According to a senior police officer, the victim sent the accused Rs 20,000 for his mother’s treatment. When he demanded more money, she became suspicious. When she asked him to return her money a few days later, the accused cut all contact with her and blocked her. She approached the cops after realising she had been duped.
The cybercrime branch opened an investigation and filed a case against the unidentified accused.
