Vijayawada Police Commissionerate Launches Cyber Citizen App and Kicks Off Cyber Awareness Campaign
Vijayawada, 26th August 2024 — In a significant move towards combating cybercrime, the NTR Commissionerate, under the dynamic leadership of Sri S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, IPS, Commissioner of Police, organized a massive cybercrime awareness program in Vijayawada. The event marked the launch of the ‘Cyber Citizen’ mobile application, a pioneering initiative aimed at involving the public in cybercrime awareness and prevention.
The Cyber Citizen app is designed to empower citizens to become active participants in cybercrime prevention. Through the app, users can register as cyber citizens, access educational resources, and spread awareness among the general public. The initiative has identified 200 well-trained police constables who will act as ‘Cyber Commandos.’ Each commando will recruit ten ‘Cyber Soldiers’ from various educational institutions, including colleges and schools. These Cyber Soldiers will be tasked with educating the public by promoting the Cyber Citizen app and encouraging participation in simulation tests that provide real-time experience in dealing with various types of cyber crimes.
This initiative is set to operate as a chain management system, with a target of enrolling 200,000 Cyber Citizens within the next few months. Active participants in this program, including Cyber Soldiers, will be suitably rewarded for their contributions to enhancing cyber safety in the community.
In addition to this, the NTR Commissionerate engaged social media influencers and YouTubers to create short films, reels, and videos focusing on cybercrime awareness, women’s safety, and traffic safety. The response was overwhelming, with approximately 400 videos submitted for review. The best entries were awarded first, second, and third prizes, recognizing their impact in spreading critical safety messages.
Sri S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, IPS, emphasized the urgent need to raise awareness about cyber crimes among the general public to curb the growing menace. He expressed his commitment to continuing such initiatives to ensure the safety and security of the community in the digital age.
