Rajasthan Government Approves Rs 18.40 Crore for Cyber Crime Prevention Centre

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government has approved a budget of Rs 18.40 crore for setting up a state-of-the-art facility to prevent cyber crimes, according to an official statement.

The new centre, named the “Centre for Cyber Security, Counter-Terrorism and Anti-Insurgency,” will aim to prevent cyber-related crimes and increase public awareness of such crimes.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has approved the funding for the establishment and equipment of the centre, which will include labs at state, range, commissionerate and district levels.

Rajasthan, like other states in India and around the world, is vulnerable to various types of cyber crimes and cyber threats. Some of the most common cyber crimes in India include phishing, hacking, identity theft, cyberstalking, and cyberbullying.

What Will Cyber Crime Prevention Centre Do?

The cyber crime prevention centre will work with government agencies from various states and countries to develop software for cyber security, crime intelligence, research, and prevention.

It will also keep the state updated on new malware, threats, and viruses, and training will be provided on the latest developments in cybercrime.

The state government has already established cyber police stations in all districts, equipped with the necessary tools to investigate crimes.

Previous Endeavours of Rajasthan Government

In April 2022, the Ashok Gehlot government had announced establishing the Centre for Cyber Security at a cost of Rs 50 crore.

The chief minister had noted that continuously increasing cyber crimes have emerged as a major challenge for the police and to effectively deal with this, the state government had announced setting up cyber police stations in all the districts in the budget 2022-23.

The Centre for Cyber Security with a cost of Rs 50 crore will be set up to prevent cybercrimes, protect the digital eco-system from cyber threats and create public awareness.

On the lines of 108 ambulance, the state government has decided to form 500 Police Mobile Units by linking dial 100 and dial 112. The number of cameras linked with “Abhay Command and Control Centre” will be increased to 30,000 from the existing 10,000.

Besides this, it is being made compulsory to install CCTV cameras in big private institutions and commercial places.

In a novel initiative to help the youth of the state, the police in Rajasthan had in December 2022 decided to set up special cells in each district to prevent youngsters from getting influenced by social media posts of gangsters.

The development came in the wake of several episodes in which social media posts of notorious gangsters and criminals were found to have lured the interest of youths of Rajasthan, prompting them to follow suit of the anti-social elements in real life.
