RAJASTHAN: In a decisive move against cybercrime, Rajasthan Police arrested 30 individuals involved in large-scale cyber fraud.  The arrests followed coordinated raids across 40 locations in five police station jurisdictions in Jaipur. The suspects, linked to eight distinct criminal gangs, are accused of orchestrating fraudulent schemes amounting to Rs 30 crore. Two minors associated with the operations were also detained.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Jaipur West)  revealed that the suspects were not only engaged in executing cyber fraud but were also training others in advanced techniques to deceive victims.

Among the accused is a 25-year-old from Tonk district who reportedly underwent specialized cybercrime training in Sri Lanka, underscoring the transnational nature of these operations and the growing sophistication of cyber-enabled financial crimes.

‘Operation Cyber Shield’: A Strategic Offensive Against Cybercrime

The arrests are part of ‘Operation Cyber Shield,’ a month-long campaign launched on January 2, 2025, to combat the escalating cybercrime threat in Rajasthan. The operation aims to dismantle the infrastructure of organized cyber fraud, address public grievances, and promote cybersecurity awareness.

Key achievements during the campaign’s initial phase include:

  • Blocked Bank Accounts: 135 accounts linked to fraudulent transactions have been frozen.
  • Frozen UPIs: 64 Unified Payments Interfaces (UPIs) associated with illicit activities have been deactivated.
  • ATM Seizures: 20 ATMs used in fraudulent operations have been disabled.

These measures aim to disrupt the financial networks of cybercriminals and prevent further exploitation of unsuspecting victims.

Seized Evidence and Ongoing Investigations

During the raids, authorities confiscated a wide array of tools and equipment used in cyber fraud, including:

  • Laptops and mobile phones for orchestrating scams.
  • ATM cards and WiFi routers to facilitate anonymity and transactions.
  • CCTV cameras and HDMI cables for monitoring operations.
  • Bank passbooks, cheque books, and passports indicating attempts at identity fraud and money laundering.

Six criminal cases have been registered under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act across Kardhani, Kalwar, Harmada, Karni Vihar, and Bindayaka police stations. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the criminal network.

Addressing the Rise in Cybercrime

Rajasthan has witnessed a surge in cyber-related offenses, including digital arrest scams, online betting frauds, and financial deceptions. Many victims are elderly individuals and women, often targeted due to their perceived vulnerability.

To counter this trend, the Cyber Crime Branch has implemented “hotspot mapping” to identify and monitor areas with high cybercrime activity. This data-driven approach aims to disrupt criminal networks and prevent future offenses.

Empowering Citizens Through Awareness

Beyond enforcement, ‘Operation Cyber Shield’ places significant emphasis on public education. The campaign seeks to:

  • Raise Awareness: Educate citizens about common cyber fraud tactics to help them avoid falling victim.
  • Resolve Complaints: Address public grievances related to cybercrime swiftly and effectively.
  • Promote Cyber Safety: Equip individuals with tools and knowledge to recognize and report suspicious activities.

A Commitment to a Safer Digital Environment

The success of ‘Operation Cyber Shield’ reflects the Rajasthan Police’s dedication to dismantling cybercrime networks and safeguarding citizens from digital threats. By combining rigorous law enforcement with widespread awareness initiatives, the campaign aims to create a more secure digital environment.

Authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious online activities, and adopt safe digital practices. With proactive measures and community participation, Rajasthan is making significant strides in addressing the evolving challenges posed by cybercrime.
