Senior Railway Officer Under CBI Radar, Search At 4 Locations in UP

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against a Director (Telecom), Research Design and Standards Organization, Ministry of Railways and his wife on the allegations of possessing disproportionate assets.

The official said a complaint was received against Navneet Kumar Varma. After promotion to the post of Senior Divisional Signal and Telecom Engineer (Sr. DSTE), had served at Eastern Railway, Malda Town (West Bengal) during the period 2015 to 2016. Thereafter, he joined as Joint Director (S&T), Urban Transport and High Speed, RDSO, Lucknow, where he remained posted from 2017 to August 2018.

It is alleged that Navneet Kumar Varma had acquired assets to the tune of Rs 76.45 lakh which were disproportionate to his known sources of income during the period from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2017.

It was also alleged that during the said period, the accused had acquired immovable and movable assets, amounting to Rs 81.42 lakh in his and his wife’s name.

CBI officials said searches are being conducted on Friday at four locations including Lucknow, Jaunpur and Mau (Uttar Pradesh) in the office and residential premises of the accused which has led to the recovery of several incriminating documents.
