1. Avadi Police Commissioner Returns Rs 56 Lakh to Cybercrime Victims

Avadi Police handed over Rs 56 lakh recovered from cyber fraud cases to victims at an event in Thirumullaivoyal, Chennai. The money was traced through frozen mule accounts linked to scams like online trading and job frauds. Commissioner issued certificates to victims, including major recipients.

2. Mumbai Cyber Scam: Four Held for Rs 32 Lakh Fraud Over Fake Money Laundering Charges

A cybercrime gang defrauded a retired Kandivali man of Rs 32 lakh through threats of a “digital arrest” under fake money laundering charges. Impersonating officials, fraudsters issued fake warrants and coerced payments. The Cyber Cell arrested four suspects, for aiding the scam with bank accounts.

3. Hulimavu Police Bust Fake Call Center in Fraud Raid

Hulimavu police raided an unregistered call center running a stock market scam, arresting operators. Employees, unaware of the fraud, were urging investments through the company’s demat account. The operation, involving 15 workers, was uncovered via an informant. Further investigations are ongoing.

4. Police Trace Two Bank Accounts Linked to BSF Officer’s Cyber Arrest Case

Madhya Pradesh police identified two bank accounts linked to a Rs 71.25 lakh cyber fraud targeting a BSF official in Gwalior. The victim was coerced into transferring funds during a 32-day “digital arrest.” SSP confirmed the probe into account holders, with two more accounts under scrutiny.

5. Gurugram Cyber Fraud Suspect Dies After Jumping Off Hotel Balcony During Escape

A cyber fraud accused from Bihar, died after jumping off a Gurugram hotel balcony to escape police custody. Arrested in a cybercrime case, he attempted to climb down a pole but fell, sustaining fatal head injuries. Gwalior Police were staying at the hotel with four suspects during the investigation.

6. Cybercriminals Exploit Backdoors They Sold to Others as Domains Expire

WatchTowr Labs uncovered over 4,000 abandoned backdoors exposing government and academic systems to hijacking. Researchers re-registered expired domains for $20 each, logging requests from compromised hosts in Bangladesh, China, Nigeria, and more. High-value targets included Nigeria’s Federal High Court. The ShadowServer Foundation now manages these domains to prevent misuse.

8. Scammers Use Fake Authority Calls and Remote Apps to Steal OTPs

Group-IB uncovered a refund scam in the Middle East where cybercriminals impersonate government officials to steal victims’ data using remote access tools like AnyDesk and TeamViewer. Targeting complainants on government portals, scammers exploit trust, causing losses up to $5,000. Experts urge caution against unsolicited calls and downloading remote access software.

9. INTERPOL Commends Nigeria’s Efforts in Combating Cybercrime

The Nigeria Police Force National Cyber-crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) was named Africa’s Best Cyber-crime Unit for 2024 by INTERPOL. It recovered over $5.6 million and prosecuted 751 cybercriminals. Seized items include 467 phones, 137 laptops, and properties. The NPF urges citizens to practice cyber awareness and responsible online behavior.

10. UN Aviation Agency Confirms Breach of Recruitment Database
