UP Police's New Weapon Against Cyber Crime: 373 New Hires and High-Tech Equipment

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh state government is set to fill 373 vacant posts in the cyber wing of the UP Police to enhance the effectiveness of cyber crime prevention and control. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, directed officials to prepare a blueprint to fill the vacant posts during a recent review meeting of the cyber wing. The department will also be getting its own administrative building, which will help in better monitoring of cases.

Decline in criminal cases registered in the state

A government spokesman reported a significant decline in criminal cases registered in the state. In 2020, 11,770 cases of cyber crime were registered, whereas in 2022, only about 7,000 cases were registered. As of March 2023, only 1,500 cases have been registered.

Government provides all possible resources and manpower to the UP Police

According to a senior officer, the government is providing all possible resources and manpower to the UP Police to control crime. The officer mentioned that the government will also ensure that the cyber crime department has vehicles and state-of-the-art equipment required to check cyber crime. Additionally, advanced cyber forensic labs at the headquarters level and basic cyber forensic labs at regional cyber crime stations will be established. Cyber crime stations in each district will also be ensured.

Blueprint of the resources required to curb cyber crime

The Chief Minister emphasized that under the zero tolerance policy towards crime, the department should prepare a blueprint of the resources required to curb cyber crime, so that action could be expedited. The official also reported that the vacant posts include those of additional superintendent of police to computer operator, such as ASPs (3), DySPs (7), inspectors and S-Is (75 each), head constables (23), constables (128), constable drivers (23), followers (7) and computer operators (32).

Preparation of details of vacant posts

The CM instructed officials to prepare details of vacant posts and provide it to the government at the earliest. With the recruitment of additional personnel and the establishment of the cyber crime department’s own administrative building, the UP Police is expected to be more effective in preventing and controlling cyber crime.
