Ranveer Singh's Shocking Deepfake Scandal Shocks Bollywood

Mumbai, April 22, 2024: Actor Ranveer Singh has taken legal action against the circulation of a deepfake video featuring him expressing political views. The video, which surfaced after Singh’s recent appearance in Varanasi for a fashion event with designer Manish Malhotra and actress Kriti Sanon, portrays him criticizing Prime Minister Modi over national economic issues.

In response, Ranveer Singh swiftly lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police’s Cyber Crime Cell, aiming to curb the spread of misinformation and prevent potential harm to his reputation. The deepfake technology utilized in the video employs an artificial intelligence-generated replica of Singh’s voice, despite the visual content appearing authentic.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Singh’s spokesperson confirmed the filing of the police complaint and emphasized the seriousness of the matter. “An FIR has been registered against the account responsible for disseminating the AI-generated deepfake video,” the spokesperson stated.

Expressing concern for his vast social media following, which stands at 47.2 million on Instagram, Ranveer Singh utilized his platform to caution fans about the dangers posed by deepfake technology. Through his Instagram Stories, he issued a warning, “Deepfake se bacho doston (Friends, beware of deepfakes).”

This incident underscores a growing trend in the entertainment industry, with prominent figures falling victim to deepfake manipulation. Earlier, actor Aamir Khan faced a similar situation when a deepfake video allegedly endorsing a political party began circulating online. Khan’s team swiftly clarified his stance, asserting his long-standing dedication to public awareness campaigns conducted in collaboration with the Election Commission.

In an official statement, Khan’s spokesperson reiterated his non-affiliation with any political party throughout his extensive career spanning 35 years. “Aamir Khan has consistently lent his support to Election Commission public awareness initiatives,” the statement read, emphasizing Khan’s commitment to non-partisan advocacy.
