A Simple Search, a Costly Mistake:

58-year-old KS Andhale, a former intelligence officer residing in Mumbai, found himself the victim of an elaborate online con. While searching for the Indian Railways’ helpline number to cancel his train tickets to Ajmer, Andhale stumbled upon a seemingly helpful mobile contact. Little did he know, this seemingly innocuous action would lead to a significant financial loss.

Lured into a Web of Deceit:

The individual posing as IRCTC customer care readily offered assistance, requesting the ticket PNRs and credit card details. Trusting the supposed official, Andhale provided the information, unaware of the malicious trap being laid. The scammer then sent a malicious file over WhatsApp, instructing Andhale to download and fill it out.

Red Flags and Quick Action:

While this interaction was ongoing, Andhale received a crucial call from his bank, alerting him to a potential fraudulent transaction of ₹50,000 on his credit card. Thankfully, Andhale’s prompt action in halting the transaction prevented further losses. However, he soon discovered three unauthorized transactions of ₹45,000 had already been made.
