Fact Check: Is the Govt Giving Free Recharge For 3-Months For Record Vaccination?

A viral post claims that the government is offering a free recharge to the customers of Vodafone Idea, Jio and Airtel to celebrate the record vaccination against Covid-19 in the country.

“The government is giving free recharge of three months as India celebrate the Covid-19 vaccination milestone. If you have Reliance Jio, Airtel, or Vi connection then you can avail the offer. Click on the below link and your phone will get recharged. The offer is valid till December 20,” reads the message.

However, after a fact check was run on the mentioned news, it proved to be FAKE NEWS.

The Government has cleared that it has made no such announcement.

“The viral message is fake. No such announcement has been made by the Government of India,” Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check tweeted from its official Twitter handle.

In April this year, the Cellular Operators Association of India had also put out public advisory asking users to be careful about fraudulent messages.
