Innovative Silicon Valley Startup SandboxAQ Partners with US Military for Cyber Security Reinforcement
Silicon Valley-based startup SandboxAQ said that it has successfully secured a government contract with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) for military cyber security. The deal, which involves subcontractors Microsoft and Deloitte & Touche, aims to strengthen encryption algorithms in anticipation of future threats posed by quantum computing.
SandboxAQ, a spin-off from Alphabet, specializes in artificial intelligence and quantum computing. Their software offers advanced scanning capabilities to identify and replace encryption algorithms that are susceptible to current or imminent technology and techniques, as stated by SandboxAQ CEO Jack Hidary in an interview with Reuters.
Experts predict that quantum computers will eventually possess the ability to break today’s encryption algorithms. To counter this potential threat, new cryptography techniques that can withstand quantum computing have been introduced. These measures aim to prevent hackers from gathering encrypted data with the intent to decrypt it in the future.
Jack Hidary expressed his excitement about the significant milestone reached by SandboxAQ, stating, “It’s a great milestone for our company.” Recognizing the need for additional expertise, SandboxAQ sought subcontractors and found valuable partners in Deloitte and Microsoft.
Microsoft, renowned for its infrastructure platform, will provide the necessary technology to deploy software effectively within large organizations like the Department of Defense. On the other hand, Deloitte brings in-person services that can seamlessly implement changes and improvements.
The exact financial details of the contract remain undisclosed at this time, according to Hidary.

This government contract comes on the heels of SandboxAQ’s recent triumph in winning a contract with the U.S. Air Force to research quantum navigation technology. The project explores an alternative to the Global Positioning System (GPS) by utilizing quantum physics-based sensors to monitor local changes in the Earth’s magnetic field. By leveraging this cutting-edge technology, navigation systems can achieve significantly improved precision.
