New Delhi: In a first, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a firm stand on cybersecurity in its ‘Sankalp Patra’. Promising to “Take strict action against digital entities that threaten Indians’ safety; develop & implement robust cyber security policies,” the BJP underlines the urgency of safeguarding citizens in an increasingly interconnected world.

Recent Cyber Attacks had Raised Nationwide Concern

Recent cyber incidents have highlighted the vulnerabilities in India’s digital defenses. Notable among these was the ransomware attack on the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) which saw the healthcare institution grappling with system disruptions and data security concerns. Similarly, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories faced a sophisticated phishing attack, raising alarms over the protection of sensitive pharmaceutical data.

BJP’s Commitment to Digital Security

The manifesto’s emphasis on cybersecurity aligns with the party’s broader vision of a progressive and secure India, reflecting a recognition of the global nature of cyber threats and the importance of resilient digital infrastructure. With this commitment, the BJP seeks to reinforce India’s cybersecurity capabilities to fend off threats and ensure the safety of its digital sphere.
